La série Les carnets rouges émerge d'un voyage d'étude à Varanasi, Inde.
S'intéressant aux espaces de production dans la ville, Marague découvre diverses techniques artisanales comme la sculpture sur bois au tour ou l'impression sur tissu dite "woodblock printing" et s'affectionne pour l'esthétique des machines pré-industrielles.
A Khojwan, un quartier à forte concentration d'artisans tourneurs sur bois, Marague réalise un travail de terrain approfondi. Le relevé urbain, architectural et sociologique du quartier se fait au travers du dessin, de la photographie, de la vidéo et d'interviews. Dans la suite de ses pérégrinations, Marague tombe sur une petite échoppe où un homme relie toutes sortes d'ouvrages avec une couverture rouge. Après avoir choisi ses papiers, Marague confie l'assemblage des carnets rouges à Sanjay. Ils seront le support d'extraits du travail de terrain.
En s'inspirant du procédé du "woodblock printing", Marague grave les illustrations sur du linoleum et les estampe à la peinture rouge. La réalisation artisanale des impressions rend chaque carnet unique.
The serie The red notebooks emerges from a study trip to Varanasi, India.
Focusing on production spaces in the city, Marague discovers various craft techniques such as woodcarving on the lathe or woodblock printing and focuses on the aesthetics of pre-industrial machines. In Khojwan, a small urban village with a high concentration of wood turners, Marague carries out extensive fieldwork. The urban, architectural and sociological survey of the neighborhood is done through drawing, photography, video and interviews. In the continuation of her wandering, Marague falls on a small shop where a man joins all kinds of books with a red cover. After choosing their papers, Marague entrusts the assembly of the red notebooks to Sanjay. They will be the support of extracts from their fieldwork.
Inspired by the woodblock printing process, Marague engraved illustrations on linoleum and stamped them with red paint. The artisanal production of prints makes each notebook unique.
